Michelle Ellis is an “intuitive artist” with most of her abstract paintings are created from instinct, without reference material or consideration of the final outcome. She paints intuitively using energetic, spontaneous brushstrokes, building up and blending thin layers of paint, mostly on textured canvases. The process is visceral, emotional and all consuming. Her inspiration is drawn from nature’s kaleidoscope of patterns, colors and forms. She is drawn to natural elements such as stone, cement, rock, rust, and other natural elements.

Michelle has been the resident artist at Brecon Estate Winery since 2014.  She also exhibits her art in galleries and art festivals in San Luis and Santa Barbara Counties.  While exhibiting at Gallery Los Olivos, she earned numerous awards including “Judge’s Award” and “People’s Choice” Award and “Honorable Mention” awards. She was selected as the featured Artist of the Month through the Artist Guild of the Santa Ynez Valley, and featured Guest Artist at Pavlov Contemporary Art Gallery in Solvang.  Additionally, she has exhibited in the Art Without Borders program through the Artist Guild of the Santa Ynez Valley and takes part in the annual Arts Obispo Open Studios Tour.

Her work will be on display at SLO Provisions through the end of May.
