In My Studio - Rosemary Bauer

My first love is painting outdoors “en plein air”.   There is something special about spending time out in nature, despite bugs landing on my painting, the wind knocking down my setup, incoming tides and… you get the picture.

However, I love studio painting, too.  I find that my plein air experiences have helped to make my studio paintings better.  Painting outdoors has made me more conscious about how light, shadows and colors change during the day.  It has made me more spontaneous with my indoor paintings, and has given me permission to stray from my original plan or photo into something more expressive.    An added bonus is that I can play some music in my studio, while I’m making music on canvas!

It’s fun pointing out plein air and studio paintings on display, and offering some insight about how they became what they are.  Come visit me at catalog# 151, and see what you think!
