What Inspires Me - Julie Dunn

I've been painting for a very long time, over 50 years! My mother was an artist, and as a child, my brothers and I always had lots of art materials to use and we're encouraged to do so. I received my BA degree in Drawing and Painting, and over the years I've dabbled in just about every medium imaginable. In 2004, I created my first Tempera Batik painting on paper, and was simply fascinated with the process.  (Another Blog article to follow with photos of the all the steps!)

I've spent the past 22 years working in this style and have continued to refine the technique to where it truly has become my "signature style." Up until the last two years, ALL of my paintings were done from photographs and were created in my studio. I enjoyed what I was doing, but quite honestly I really needed some NEW inspiration. I have found just that in "plein air" painting! Now I begin my paintings on location and am inspired by being outdoors and facing all the elements: sun, wind, bugs, changing light, moving objects, everything that happens when you're in the real world!  ALL of my current landscapes have been started in this way and then completed in my studio. I find them even more stimulating and captivating than my previous work and plan to continue on this new inspirational journey for quite some time!
