In My Studio - Melissa Traynor

My studio, which is available for the first time as part of Open Studios Art Tour, is in the garage and partly in the backyard.  The garage houses the tools and my main work bench.  I like having a large and safe place for working with copper which is why I also have the backyard area.  In either location, I'm rarely alone.  My dog, Chimay, tends to follow me from place to place and eventually settles down behind my feet.  I always need to remember not to step back or I might step on her.  Why she hangs with me while I hammer on or anneal copper is a bit of a mystery.  I know she doesn’t like loud, unexpected sounds, but she puts up with the noise I make.  If I’m frustrated with a piece that I’m working on, she will visit and make me smile.  She does remind me that I need to take breaks by stealing a ball out of her toy box and dropping it on my feet.

Drop by my studio at catalog location #106 during Open Studios Art Tour, and maybe you’ll be greeted by my little greeter dog.  She loves people.  If she isn’t around, then she probably was having too much fun meeting people or bugging the other wonderful artists who will be sharing my location.

Oh, if you want to see what I actually create in my garage/backyard studio, check out my websites at ARTS Obispo, facebook, and Etsy.
