Origins - Alice Sennett

My love affair with clay began in my senior year of art school in an elective clay sculpture class. I loved the clay’s responsiveness and feel. My next chance to work with clay came a few years later when we moved to Santa Barbara where adult education pottery classes were offered. There I learned the basics of throwing, glazing and firing pottery. I made so many casseroles in those days that I was dubbed by one of my instructors as “The casserole queen”! For many years I happily made and sold utilitarian ware. Gradually I added sun & moon sculptures to the pottery. In the past fifteen years I have added cat and dog images to my repertoire. Our pets over the years have been not only a joy but an inspiration. Their graceful forms, amusing and amazing antics, and their individual personalities entertain me every day. My aim is to capture the foibles and joy of life of Abby, Kaia, Jamey, and Buster as they keep me company in my studio and home at catalog location #103.
