My Favorite Tool - Curtis Essen

My favorite tool for my photography has always been my camera. I love firing my Canon because it gets me out of my head and focused on the other. The other being the beauty that never ceases to amaze me on the Central Coast and has given me a compulsion to always carry my camera in anticipation of capturing the magic moments when the lighting is perfect.

I was given my first camera by my father when I was 6 or 7 years old. We had a darkroom in the house by the time I was in 5th grade and I minored in photography in college while pursuing a career in diagnostic imaging. My photography is mainly of landscape scenes of the Central Coast from Santa Barbara to the Big Sur Coast and the local mountains and vineyards. I began selling my photographs in 2008

I am recently shooting with a 50 megapixel Canon 5DSR.  I make my own prints on a 44” wide Canon iPF8400 12 color printer using pigment based archival quality Canon inks.  I am predominately print on canvas and stretch the canvas on frames myself. Images can be custom sized to fit your wall space.  Some of my very large photographs are a compilation of up to 22 or more images digitally stitched together resulting in images that are generally in the 200 megapixel range.

I am the resident artist at The ACI Jet Center (the private terminal at SLO Airport)  and also at Phantom Rivers Wine Tasting Room in The Arroyo Grande Village. Photos may be purchased off the wall at either of these venues.  My website is looktwicephotography.com
