Origins - George Asdel

My mother saved some of my 6 year-old child drawings and a few years ago I found the drawing below in a box in my garage. Even back then, I was drawing humor and whimsy.

I was born in 1943 and all through elementary, junior high, and high school I was the class artist. Whenever the class needed some art, the teacher would ask me to draw or paint whatever it was.  In high school, I was chosen to be the student art director for several of the musicals our school put on. In college, I studied education, continued stage and set design and minored in art.

I went on to teach elementary school in L.A. City, Newfoundland (Canada) and a one room schoolhouse near Julian, California where I stressed art in all my classes.

Currently, my art is shown in Morro Bay at the Gallery at Marina Square. You can also see more of my work on my website georgeasdel.com. Be sure to visit me during the 2016 Open Studios Art Tour (I’m #170 in the catalog)!
