You can see the progression from background to foreground in this sequence of 4 photos. As I was listening to a Barcelona Gypsy music, I was deeply inspired to use a color pallet of antique browns and rich ruby pigments with quantities of water and medium. I used gravity to move the paint and wooden tools to make blocky markings, creating an abstract background. At times I feel like I’m writing a musical composition with imagery and color. It’s like an unrehearsed jazz performance, raw and spontaneous. However, I love figure painting, so this 40x48" canvas was calling for some passionate players and dancers that evoked the kind of music I was listening to. I'll be displaying over 25 pieces of my music series, featuring many local SLO county musicians for this year's Open Studios, as well as new ocean inspired pieces.
